Look and See!

Merry! Jolly! Happy! Whatever there is to celebrate, the key is to be ‘present’. Our children want and need us more than they need or want stuff. Here is a new song based on an old carol that will give you a present – a short reminder to sit down and play with your child. Whether it is a drum or the box that toy came in, it is your presence that will make this celebration memorable for both you and your child.

Look and See!
E. K. Schwartz 2017

1, 2, 3. Look and see!
1, 2, 3. Look at me.
1, 2, 3. Look and see!
We can play together. We can play together.

Come and play with me.
Come and play with me.
Come with me and you’ll see, we can play together.

I WANT!!

All kids have them at one time or another and most parents fear them…temper tantrums.  As hard as they can be to live through, it’s important to know that these outbursts are fairly typical as the child develops.  While it seems natural to try and figure out why your child is having a meltdown, a better approach is to help the child learn how to communicate and cope. Here’s a new song that gives you and your child words and ways for those moments of mayhem!

“I Want!!”

E.K. Schwartz MA, LCAT, MT-BC 2017

I want. I want. I want to play with you.

I want. I want. I want to play with you.

So come with me and play the drum.

We’ll beat together and have some fun.

And when the song is done….

I’m so glad I played with you.

I want. I want. I want to play with you.

I want. I want. I want to play with you.

You play with me, I play with you.

We play together and that’s what we do.

And when the song is through…

I’m so glad I played with you.

I want. I want. I want to play with you.

I want. I want. I want to play with you.

Only One Me

When to let go? When to set free?

This is one of the hardest dilemmas of parenting. It is especially challenging when we need to, or choose to, send our children outside of the home for care or for school. How to make it easier? Here is a short but catchy song to help your child (and you) cope with the challenges of letting go. It reminds them and us that no matter how many people there are in this new environment, we still stay ‘me’.

 Only One Me

E.K. Schwartz 2016

There are many, many kids in my school, in my school

There are many, many kids in my school

There are many, many kids in my school, in my school

There are many, many kids in my school

But there’s only one me

Only one me

Only one me in my school

There are many, many toys in my school, in my school

There are many, many toys in my school

There are many, many books in my school, in my school

There are many, many books in my school

But there’s only one me

Only one me

Only one me in my school

Enjoy the music!

I’m So Glad to Be Me!

Don’t you wish you could bottle the unrestrained joy of infants and toddlers when they are happy and excited? One way young children show enthusiasm is through clapping. Get ready to sing, clap and dance along with this happy new song celebrating those small moments of pleasure.

I’m So Glad to Be Me

E.K. Schwartz 2016

I’m going to clap with my hands

I’m going to dance with my knees

I’m going to sing out loud ‘I’m glad to be me!’

I’m going to clap with my hands

I’m going to dance with my knees

I’m going to sing out loud ‘I’m so glad to be me!’

Here’s my head

And here’s my toes

I know how to think

And I know where to go

Here’s my eyes, I know how to look

I can jump and play and read a book.

I’m going to clap with my hands

I’m going to dance with my knees

I’m going to sing out loud ‘I’m glad to be me!’

I’m going to clap with my hands

I’m going to dance with my knees

I’m going to sing out loud ‘I’m so glad to be me!’

Can’t Sit Still

Waiting in line at the grocery store? or in the Doctor’s waiting room? These are times when a parent’s need to focus and wait really clashes with the child’s need to move. Here is a brand new Sprouting Melodies Sing at Home to help you and your child make it though these tough times. It might just be one of the most fun songs I have ever written!

Enjoy!

Look outside! The wind is blowing

The people are moving and the cars are going

And down in the ground all the flowers are growing

And I can’t sit still.

The wind is blowing, and I can’t sit still

The cars are going, and I can’t sit still

The flowers are growing, and I can’t sit still

No, I can’t sit still

Look outside! The bunnies are hopping

The birds are singing and their heads are bopping

And up in the sky the sun is not stopping

And I can’t sit still.

The bunnies are hopping, and I can’t sit still

The birds are bopping, and I can’t sit still

The sun’s not stopping, and I can’t sit still

No, I can’t sit still

I can move my body

I can move my feet

I can wiggle, wiggle, wiggle

In my seat

But I can’t sit still

I’m Glad that We’re Together

Music is a great way for people to get together and to be together.  Finding common ground or even a common way to communicate can be a challenge whether you find yourself with little children; or people who don’t speak the same language; or even a family member or colleague with opinions that are very different than yours! Here is a new song adapted from a very old tune that can bring ‘me and you, and you and me’ together.

I’m Glad That We’re Together

Adapted by E.K. Schwartz 2016

I am glad you’ll come

And have some fun

We’ll shake maracas and play the drum

I’m glad that we’re together to make some music today.

There’s me and you. And you and me.

And then there’s you and then there’s me.

I’m glad that we’re together to make some music today.

Enjoy the music!

Will You Help Me Cook?

For almost every holiday, we have special foods connected with that holiday.  When we have traditions in our family connected with food, it is really important to bring young children into the kitchen early to learn about those traditions. Give them a small chore, and help them to learn about their family and their culture with the new song about food. Mmm, Mmm, Mmm!

Will You Help Me Cook?

E.K. Schwartz 2015

Pumpkin pie; put it in the oven.

Baked potatoes;  I’ll eat ‘em by the dozen.

Cook me up some carrots and peas,

A little bit of turkey and some gravy, please.

Will you help me cook? Yes! Yes!

Come and take a look. Yes! Yes!

In the recipe book. Yes! Yes!

So cook me up some carrots and peas,

A little bit of turkey and some gravy, please.

Enjoy the music!

Thank You for Being

When was the last time you received a hand written thank you note?  There is something very special about getting an unexpected and sincere thank you. It feels so great. It lets you know that somebody recognizes and respects you. This is so important for us, and especially important for young children. But just as important as hearing ‘thank you’ is learning how to say ‘thank you’.

Here is a very catchy, short new song that will help your little one learn and practice how to say and mean ‘thank you’.  Thank you, not for some object, but thank you just for being you! Enjoy singing it to each other.

Thank you for being here with me today

Thank you for being here to play

Thank you for being here with me today

Thank you for being here today

Who’s That Sitting Next to You??

Are you starting a new group with your baby or toddler? Maybe a Sprouting Melodies group, or maybe a parent group at your local library. All these new experiences give you and your child the chance to connect and create relationships that could last a lifetime. But first you need to know…who is that sitting next to you! Here is a brand new song to sing when getting to know other people. Sing it in your group, but also sing it while you wait in the Doctor’s office, or in line at the grocery store, or at the next family reunion.

Enjoy!

Fingers & Toes

Playing with pitch can be so much fun for you and your baby! Pitch is one of the tiny details that makes up music, but has meaning all by itself. Just like your baby’s tiny fingers and toes. Here is a brand new Sprouting Melodies Sing at Home to play and sing.

Fingers & Toes  E. K. Schwartz 2015

Fingers and toes. Fingers and toes.

Wiggle ’em, jiggle ’em. Tickle your nose.

Fingers and toes. Fingers and toes.

Wiggle ’em, jiggle ’em. Tickle your nose.

Close your eyes and count to ten.

When you wake up, we’ll do it again!
